Welcome to the
Little Creek Farm Conservancy
Little Creek Farm Conservancy is a non-profit organization that partners with DeKalb County to enhance and support Little Creek Farm, a historic public horse park in Decatur (Atlanta, Georgia). The Mission of the Little Creek Farm Conservancy, Inc., is to promote the stewardship of Little Creek Horse Farm and Park for equine activities, including educational, environmental, and recreational outreach programs for the general public.
About the Farm
Little Creek Farm is a 40-acre farm for more than 40 horses, all of which are privately owned. Experienced trainers provide beginning to advanced riding lessons to children and adults in a safe environment. Lessons are offered in general riding, dressage, and hunter/jumper.
The barn, renovated in 2010, provides 46 stalls, an indoor arena, wash stalls, lounge, and handicapped-accessible restrooms. Outdoors there is a riding arena, round pen, and 12 acres of riding trails along the creek, and through the woods.
Our History
Little Creek Farm is one of the last horse farms inside the I-285 perimeter highway. Until it was acquired by DeKalb County in 2004 for its County Park System, the Farm had been in the same family since before the Civil War. During the Battle of Atlanta in 1864, General Stoneman used the farm as a resting area for exhausted troops and cavalry horses. Thousands of Union Soldiers camped along the banks of South Peachtree Creek which runs through the property. The bridge in the pasture over the Creek was on the original path of Lawrenceville Highway, down which the troops marched on their way to battle in Atlanta.
Little Creek Farm became a dairy farm in the 1920’s, and a horse farm in 1958. Its fields once stretched along Lawrenceville Highway to where the Home Depot now stands. The nearby Sargent Hills Neighborhood was also part of the Farm. Today, as a unit of the DeKalb County Parks and Recreation Department, it proudly serves citizens as beautiful green space, and provides many opportunities to enjoy equine-related activities.
